Life Fitness offers new line of LCD Entertainment Solutions

SAN FRANCISCO – March 17, 2005 – Now fitness facilities can turn to a single source for all their LCD entertainment needs. Life Fitness, the leading manufacturer of a full line of cardiovascular and strength-training equipment, today at IHRSA expanded and enhanced its family of LCD entertainment solutions, which are ideal for fitness facilities that want to provide users with cardiovascular machines equipped with personal entertainment.

“Personal entertainment features make workouts more interesting and motivate exercisers to return to the facility more often,” said Bob Quast, senior director, cardiovascular product management, Life Fitness. “From a highly advanced Life Fitness integrated touch screen to a universal stand system for any brand of cardio equipment, Life Fitness’ line of attractive LCD solutions provides the widest variety of entertainment options for cardio equipment that’s new or already in use. Whatever the facilities’ needs, we have the LCD entertainment solution to help them attract and retain exercisers who value an enhanced workout experience and who want to differentiate themselves from other facilities.”

The LCD entertainment family comprises two enhanced and two new offerings: an enhanced integrated LCD screen solution that’s standard on Life Fitness e-model cardio products, two attachable LCD screen solutions (one new, one enhanced) for use with select new Life Fitness equipment, and a new stand-based system that is compatible with previous-generation Life Fitness and non-Life Fitness cardio machines. Each offers TV-quality video on a large, 12.1-inch screen and many features that can be customized by the facility or individual user. The products will be available in the second quarter of 2005.

Integrated LCD entertainment solution

Originally introduced in 2003, Life Fitness’ integrated LCD solution now has a new name – the E3 Integrated LCD System with Touch Screen Technology. Boasting the most advanced console in the fitness industry, the E3 Integrated LCD System is the only product on the market that delivers an all-in-one solution for advanced exercise program control, personal entertainment and education. Its LCD touch screen, integrated into the Life Fitness cardio product console, displays relevant workout information while oversized buttons make managing workouts and selecting channels easy. The ergonomically correct screen position reduces glare for easy viewing, and the high-end industrial design creates the ultimate streamlined appearance.

New, advanced features include five additional user languages (simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, Korean, Russian and Turkish) for a total of 13, a promotional channel for facility-provided promotional content and several user-selectable options. The E3 System also has an FM radio tuner, a Custom Workouts program for personal trainers to create and save workouts, a password-protected Secure Channel, secondary audio program support, channel renumbering and manual fine tuning.

The enhanced E3 Integrated LCD System with Touch Screen Technology will be standard on all Life Fitness e-model cardio products.

Attachable LCD entertainment solutions

The first attachable LCD product in the family is the Attachable LCD with E-Z TV Console, and it’s the only attachable LCD solution with TV controls built into the product console. Designed to function similarly to traditional television remote controls, the in-console TV controller includes a numeric keypad for specific channel selection, channel up and down arrows, a previous channel button and volume control buttons. The Attachable LCD with E-Z TV Console is for use with new Life Fitness 95 and 97 cardio machines.

The second attachable product, the Attachable LCD Entertainment System, also originally was introduced in 2003. Its new television remote control was designed to function similarly to a television remote with a numeric keypad, up and down arrows, a previous channel button and volume control buttons. In addition, the remote now has multiple mounting options – clamp, cable ties and Velcro – and a unique rotating mechanism that allows the facility manager to adjust the remote’s angle for ideal user positioning. The Attachable LCD Entertainment System is for use with new Life Fitness 90, 91 and 93 models and with most Life Fitness commercial cardio equipment already in use.

Both attachable LCD screen products were designed to complement the look of Life Fitness’ commercial cardio products for a streamlined appearance. In addition, both screens are positioned to reduce glare and provide optimal viewing.

Stand-based LCD entertainment solution

Rounding out the LCD family is the new stand-based system. The LCD Entertainment System is an attractive, durable, universal stand solution that comes with a sturdy screen stand, LCD screen and a numeric TV remote control that has multiple mounting options and a unique rotating mechanism for ideal user positioning. Other features include concealed wiring, adjustable stabilizers and height adjustment.  The LCD Entertainment System is for use with most previous generation Life Fitness and non-Life Fitness commercial cardio machines.
