Life Fitness introduces technologically advanced integrated LCD console and add-on LCD entertainment system

Products make it easy for facilities to bring entertainment to exercisers

FRANKLIN PARK, Ill. – Oct. 9, 2003 – Life Fitness, the leading manufacturer of a full line of cardiovascular and strength-training equipment, today at the Club Industry trade show introduced two new LCD solutions – an integrated LCD console and add-on LCD entertainment system – making it easy for fitness facilities to bring entertainment to their members.

Equipped with sophisticated technology, both options allow exercisers to custom select live TV programming while working out. In addition, they are great tools to help facilities differentiate themselves from competitors and retain members. The units are designed for Life Fitness’ commercial treadmills, total-body elliptical cross-trainers (add-on only at this time), Lifecycle exercise bikes and stairclimbers.

The screens on these two products offer TV-quality video on large, 12.1-inch viewing areas (11 inches by 12 inches). Audio is accessible with standard headphones. Based on internal biomechanical research, the integrated LCD console and add-on LCD entertainment system are ergonomically designed and positioned to reduce glare and provide the most comfortable viewing placement regardless of user height.

Integrated LCD Console

The company’s premier LCD offering, the integrated LCD console will be on the Life Fitness 97Te and 95Te treadmills, 95Ce and 95Re Lifecycle exercise bikes and 95Se stairclimber. Powered by Intel technology, the built-in LCD console provides much more than entertainment, allowing simple navigation among program options and workout data through sophisticated touch-screen controls. The advanced technology provides easy expandability for future software upgrades, as well.

Add-On LCD Entertainment System

Life Fitness’ add-on LCD entertainment system is the company’s basic entertainment option for facilities that want to add customized entertainment to new or existing Life Fitness equipment. To ensure a streamlined look, the system incorporates the same industrial design as Life Fitness’ cardio equipment and is available in the company’s new gray and silver color scheme or traditional black.

“The traditional black color could be especially important for facilities that are budget conscious but still want to upgrade existing equipment with entertainment solutions while maintaining a clean look,” noted Mack.

The screen of the add-on LCD entertainment system mounts securely to the cardiovascular unit just above the existing console without requiring cumbersome freestanding screen stands. Users select and view TV programming through the LCD entertainment system; workout data is displayed through the equipment’s existing console.

Availability, Price and Warranty

Cardiovascular units with the integrated LCD consoles will be available in the fourth quarter of 2003 and will include an “e” (for entertainment) in their model numbers. The manufacturer suggested list prices are as follows: the 95Ce Lifecycle upright exercise bike is $4,899; the 95Re Lifecycle recumbent exercise bike is $4,999; the 95Se stairclimber is $4,899; the 95Te treadmill is $8,999; and the 97Te treadmill is $9,999. Also available in Q4, the add-on LCD entertainment system is priced at $1,199 for all units.

The warranty for cardiovascular products equipped with the integrated LCD console is identical to non-LCD console versions and varies by product line. The warranty for the add-on LCD entertainment system is two years parts and 90 days labor.
