Walking the walk: Life Fitness raises nearly $24,000 to fight heart disease and stroke in American Heart Walk |
FRANKLIN PARK, Ill. – Sept. 18, 2003 – Life Fitness, the leading manufacturer of a full line of cardiovascular and strength-training equipment, is proud to announce that more than 100 of its Franklin Park, Ill., employees raised nearly $24,000 to help battle heart disease and stroke by participating in the American Heart Association’s 2003 American Heart Walk.
“As a company whose products are designed to help people live active, healthy lives, Life Fitness is committed to raising awareness for the role regular exercise plays in combating cardiovascular disease,” said Kevin Grodzki, Life Fitness president and CEO, who participated in the event. “It makes tremendous sense for our company to support the American Heart Association’s efforts.”
Team members representing many departments of Life Fitness took part in a Sept. 14 walk at the College of DuPage outside of Chicago in Glen Ellyn, Ill. In the weeks leading up to the walk, Life Fitness employees solicited pledges from friends and family to raise funds which help support research and community education about heart disease and stroke, the nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers. Life Fitness’ goal was to raise $5,000, but in the end, the company was able to bring in almost five times that amount – nearly $24,000.
“Letting people know how important regular exercise is for keeping your heart healthy is more than just a corporate message – it’s something we truly espouse. The involvement of so many of Life Fitness’ employees in this year’s American Heart Walk and the amount of money we raised clearly demonstrate that,” Grodzki stated.
As the signature fund-raising event for the American Heart Association, the American Heart Walk promotes physical activity and heart-healthy living in a fun family environment. More than 750,000 walkers are expected to participate in one of more than 600 American Heart Walks being held around the United States by the American Heart Association in 2003.
