Leading company is exclusive fitness equipment provider for on-board state-of-the-art exercise center
FRANKLIN PARK, Ill. – March 29, 2004 – Life Fitness, the leading manufacturer of a full line of cardiovascular and strength-training equipment, is pleased to announce it is the exclusive fitness equipment provider to the largest cruise ship in the world, Cunard Line’s new Queen Mary 2.
“Life Fitness is thrilled to be aboard this great ocean liner,” said Jay Megna, executive vice president, global sales, service and marketing, Life Fitness. “Our relationship with Cunard and its parent company Carnival is a testament to premium companies’ demand for first-class amenities for their customers. The cruise ship market, which has exploded over the last few years, is strategically important to our business, so we will continue our efforts to ensure Life Fitness equipment is on board the world’s leading cruise ships.”
The deluxe 20,000-square-foot Canyon Ranch SpaClub on board the Queen Mary 2 is outfitted with more than 55 pieces of Life Fitness cardiovascular and strength-training equipment. To meet the diverse fitness needs of the ship’s up to 2,620 passengers, Cunard selected and installed a wide array of equipment including treadmills, total-body elliptical cross-trainers, upright and recumbent Lifecycle exercise bikes, stairclimbers, and pieces from the Hammer Strength, Cable Motion and Pro2 SE Series strength lines.
In addition, some passenger suites feature Life Fitness equipment, and more Life Fitness pieces are available on the crew deck for use by the ship’s approximately 1,250 personnel.
At Sea with Life Fitness Equipment
Life Fitness exercise equipment currently can be found on nearly 160 cruise ships worldwide. In addition to Cunard, Life Fitness is the exclusive exercise equipment provider to Carnival Cruise Lines, Celebrity Cruises, Crystal Cruise Lines, Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean International and Seabourn Cruise Line. Life Fitness also serves Norwegian Cruise Line and Silversea Cruises.
“We know that on-board fitness centers are an important amenity for attracting and retaining customers, and passengers have indicated that they prefer to use the same premium equipment on cruise ships that they use in their local health clubs and fitness centers,” Megna said. “In addition, aesthetics are a critical consideration for luxury liners, and cruise-line decision makers have told us they value the look and style of Life Fitness equipment and the planning expertise that we provide.”
Introduced with a new design in 2002, Life Fitness’ cardiovascular and strength-training pieces incorporate a mix of metallic silver and gray tones with custom rounded tubing. The equipment’s dynamic look contributes to the style and ambience of ships’ fitness facilities, delivering both sophisticated form and first-class functionality. Life Fitness also is the only manufacturer with the ability to service vessels in nearly every port of call around the world so ships can ensure their equipment is always up and running.
